The Dodge Charger and the Dodge Challenger were built to provide you with the power and speed you need while giving you two unique designs to choose from. So what’s the difference between a Charger and a Challenger? Whether you like a sports car with smoother curves or a muscle car with a bold appearance, the Charger and the Challenger will exceed your performance expectations in more ways than one.

Charger vs Challenger: Exterior and Interior

The Dodge Challenger has more of a classical muscle car appearance with its long hood, squared-off grille, round lights, and flat roof. With the Challenger only being a two-door sports car, the interior is slightly smaller than that of the Charger. The 2019 Charger has a sporty sedan appearance with a shorter curved hood and four-door entry. If passenger seating is an important factor for you, the Charger can seat up to five passengers and offers more spacious seating. Both vehicles come equipped with similar dashboards, controls, and infotainment systems.

Charger vs Challenger: Technology

Both the 2019 Challenger and the 2019 Charger offer similar standard features and upgrades. Each model comes equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen with an 8.4-inch screen available as an upgrade. Other features such as Uconnect, hands-free calling, keyless entry, and more are available as well. The 2019 Charger is a little more passenger friendly with its more spacious back seats that feature additional charging ports.

Charger vs. Challenger: Safety

As far as driver-assist features, the 2019 Charger offers more available options. Drivers can choose from features such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear Parking Sensors, and Automatic High Beams. In comparison, the Challenger offers Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear Parking Sensors, and Automatic High Beams.

Charger vs. Challenger Horse Power

The 2019 Charger and the 2019 Challenger both come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine. For a boost in speed and power, both vehicles offer the same options of V8 engines. A 5.7-liter V8 will give you 370 horsepower in the Charger and 375 horsepower in the Challenger. If that’s not enough power, the 6.4-liter V8 boosts the power of each model to 480 horsepower. For maximum speed, the Hellcat engine nearly doubles the power at an impressive 707 horsepower with the standard 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and 717 horsepower with the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. New this year is the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye that boasts 797 horsepower with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It doesn’t get much faster than that.

Charger vs. Challenger Fuel Economy

Not only do the Charger and Challenger come with a lot of power, they both come with great fuel economy. Models equipped with the V6 engine have an MPG of 19 in the city and 30 on the highway. When equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 engine, both vehicles have a combined 19 MPG. The standard Hellcat models produce a lot of power and therefore offer a lower fuel economy at 16 MPG combined, which isn’t bad for powerful sports cars that can knock you back in your seat with a good thrust on the gas pedal.

Charger vs. Challenger Price

When it comes to cost, the 2019 Dodge Charger and 2019 Dodge Challenger only slightly differ in price – the 2019 Charger has a starting price of $29,220 while the 2019 Challenger has a starting price of $27,295.

The Charger and Challenger both give you the power and speed you want while providing you with the ability to match your style. With their completely different styles and designs, you can choose the one that’s right for you.
